who sets the target hash that is to be mined? The hash isn't set per se. It's just that it needs to fulfil certain criteria (have a certain amount of zeroes in front, which signifies how hard it is to "find" this hash). This criteria is set by the open source [code]1 , which is run by all the relevant participants (full nodes and miners).

According to CoinShares website, 54 per cent of bitcoins are mined in a Chinese province Sichuan, and in total China control 65 percent of bitcoin hash rate.submitted by bestchange_pr to bestchange [link] [comments]
This is the highest recorded hash rate share — in June China controlled only 60 per cent of mining capacities. The leadership of the People’s Repbublic of China is due to the fact that the world’s leading mining equipment manufacturers are located in the country, specialists of CoinShares note. However, according to them, soon the influence of China will decrease since more equipment is being distributed over world’s markets.

but can I rig it to my bitcoin rig?So, the idea of a generator that would calculate bitcoin came up. It would run at full power all the time, and any excess power not used by normal generator output would go to bitcoin. Given a high-end gasoline generator, using PCs, FPGAs or whatever is most efficient to calculate hashes, what Hashes/Gallon* could you expect to get? How much income would it be possible to make per gallon*?

As more computing power is added to the network, valid blocks require hash digests with more leading zeros (the difficulty). Today, Bitcoin Core (BTC)'s Hash Rate has grown to Exahashes per second, or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 hashes per second. Hashrate (Hash per second, h/s) is an SI-derived unit representing the number of double SHA-256 computations performed in one second in the bitcoin network for cryptocurrency mining. Hashrate is also called as hashing power. It is usually symbolized as h/s (with an appropriate SI prefix). Bitcoin mining is a foundational component of the network and Bitcoin as an asset. Despite its importance, mining has been among the least transparent and the least understood part of the broader… As more computing power is added to the network, valid blocks require hash digests with more leading zeros (the difficulty). Today, Bitcoin Cash (BCH)'s Hash Rate has grown to Exahashes per second, or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 hashes per second. hashes per bitcoin = (network hash rate) / (25 BTC per 10 minutes) = (180 * Th / s) / (25 * BTC / (600 * s) ) = 180 * 600 / 25 * Th / s / BTC * s = 2,700 Th / BTC = 2,700,000,000,000,000 h/BTC. So that’s a BIG NUMBER! So this lead me to wonder what is after 1 trillion… It takes 2.7 Quadrillion hashes calculated to generate a BTC. Whoa…
